About
Hi. My name is Amy.
I created this space as a purposely imperfect place.
In the age of social media highlights, curated LinkedIn posts, and every online presence being some content strategy... I wanted to create something different. Something authentic. My own little corner on the internet.
With that said, a little about me...
I have a BA in English, and pivoted to software engineering in 2021 after falling in love with coding. I was in a communications role, working on SharePoint sites, and found myself more drawn to the tweaking of the HTML/CSS than the actual writing of the content... Whoops. I started coding with GameMaker Studio 2, joined a coding bootcamp focused on the MERN stack, started coding for a Fortune 500 company, and the rest is history.
To be honest though, I don't neatly fit into the typical software engineer mold. While I get a rush from getting something working - whether it's a UI component that looks/behaves just right, a pesky bug that's finally fixed, or seeing outputs from a Go script... I gravitate toward systems - maintaining balanced planted fish tanks, landscaping native gardens to benefit the larger ecosystem in my backyard, and of course, with software. And sometimes it can feel stifling to "just" implement, without having the larger architectural discussions surrounding those decisions. I believe in building things sustainably. In the age where software can be built faster than ever before, I think it is a moral responsibility to ensure that what is being built is balanced. Speed should not come at the cost of quality. As more of our world relies on technology, it's important to make sure that technology is reliable. And technology should ultimately be used for making the world a better place.
But perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself. This place is focused on simplicity. No big, complex infrastructure. No database. Just some HTML, CSS, and thoughts on a page.
